- - Paul Simon, singer/songwriter, releases his masterpiece Graceland, folk/rock style, experimentation with South African music, innovative u se of rhythm, poetic lyrics.
- - The Smiths release The Queen Is Dead, quintessential British indie rock band; rockabilly, pop and punk influences, contraversial lyics (Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, Mike Joyce).
